Making a Positive Impact
Supporting the people, places and experiences that make the Hilltops Region special.
The Young Visitor Information Centre is one of three Hilltops Visitor Information Centres, alongside those in Harden-Murrumburrah and Boorowa, working together to connect visitors with the people, businesses, places and stories of the Hilltops Region. Through our everyday work, we aim to support our local economy, celebrate our culture, care for our environment and strengthen our community. We’re continually looking for ways to improve the visitor experience and create lasting positive impacts.
Backing Local Tourism
- Creating ATDW listings to help local tourism businesses reach visitors across key websites including Visit Hilltops Region and Visit NSW.
- Promoting local businesses through our marketing channels, including Facebook, Instagram and monthly newsletters, where businesses are featured alongside relevant events, attractions and destinations.
- Featuring local businesses in our tourism guide, providing sponsored businesses with additional exposure to visitors planning and exploring the region.
- Showcasing local businesses at Visitor Information Centres, with brochures and business cards displayed across the Hilltops Visitor Information Centre network.
- Hosting tourism workshops throughout the year, providing opportunities for local businesses to build their knowledge, connect with others in the industry and share feedback to help shape tourism initiatives.
Championing Local Products
- Stocking locally made products at the Young Visitor Information Centre, giving visitors the opportunity to discover and purchase a range of Hilltops-made and sourced goods, including products from a local Aboriginal business.
- The Hilltops Wine Cellar features wines made from grapes grown across the Hilltops Wine Region, including favourites such as Cherry Prosecco Spritz and Cherry Wine.
- Celebrating local produce, with a focus on regional specialties including cherry products, jams, chocolates, olive oils and other locally made goods.
- Promoting local producers and food experiences, encouraging visitors to explore local eateries, food attractions and producers, with a particular focus on connecting visitors directly with orchards during cherry season for shed sales and pick-your-own experiences.
- Creating custom and ready-made gift packs, allowing visitors to take home a selection of local products, with gift packing provided free of charge, only paying for the products selected.
Supporting Our Community
- Supporting local artists through Burrangong Art Gallery, housed within the Young Visitor Information Centre and operated by the Young Society of Artists Inc, with original works by local artists available for visitors to discover and purchase.
- Creating opportunities for community volunteering, welcoming people who want to share their local knowledge, connect with others and contribute to their community. With support from Young, the Harden-Murrumburrah and Boorowa Visitor Information Centres are run by dedicated volunteers.
- Connecting locals with their community, providing information about local organisations, groups, clubs, activities and community events. Our Live + Work + Play section also provides new and prospective Hilltops residents with useful resources to help them settle in.
- Supporting major community festivals that bring visitors to the region, including Boorowa Irish Woolfest, Harden Kite Festival and the National Cherry Festival in Young, helping drive visitation and spending across local communities.
Celebrating Culture + Heritage
- Connecting visitors with Wiradjuri culture and Country by working with Wiradjuri Elder Aunty Enid Clarke and promoting her Walk on Country experiences.
- Sharing local history and heritage knowledge, with staff familiar with Young’s early European settlement, interactions with Aboriginal people and the history of the Old Railway Station that now houses the Young Visitor Information Centre.
- Showcasing flyers, trails and guides, historical books and banners in the Young Visitor Information Centre. A highlight being a bronze replica of the Eastern Han Dynasty Bronze Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow, gifted by the city of Lanzhou, Gansu Province in China as a symbol of our sister-city relationship.
- Promoting local history organisations and resources, connecting visitors with places such as each major town’s museum and libraries to explore the region’s stories in greater depth.
- Celebrating Young’s multicultural history via the award-winning Multicultural Cherry Fiesta held as part of the National Cherry Festival, with dedicated visitor information available to help share Young’s diverse cultural story.
Caring for Our Environment
- Reducing paper waste through digital information, using online visitor guides, QR codes and our website where digital resources can replace printed material.
- Recycling responsibly during our day-to-day operations and waste management.
- Encouraging longer stays, helping visitors discover more of the Hilltops Region and reduce the emissions associated with repeated short trips.
- Promoting walking trails, bird-watching, cycling and active experiences, encouraging visitors to explore the region on foot and enjoy its natural surroundings.
- Connecting visitors with farm gates, wineries and brewery, encouraging people to discover where local food and drinks come from and purchase directly from producers, while also sharing stories of local businesses taking steps towards more sustainable practices.
- Supporting responsible camping and visitation, providing clear information about free camping locations and available facilities so visitors can plan responsibly and minimise their impact.
