Sergeant Edmund Parry Memorial

The Sergeant Edmund Parry Memorial stands in Jugiong, commemorating one of the most significant events in Australian bushranger history.

The metal sculpture honours Sergeant Edmund Parry, who was fatally shot in 1864 while escorting a mail coach between Gundagai and Jugiong. During the attempted hold-up by notorious bushrangers Ben Hall, Johnny Gilbert and John Dunn, Parry and fellow escort Inspector O’Neil returned fire before Parry lost his life in the encounter.

Created from fabricated metal, the memorial provides a tribute to Parry’s courage and service. Signage and a NSW Police Force commemorative plaque help tell the story of the dramatic confrontation and its place in the region’s history.

Set against the rural landscape that once formed part of the bushrangers’ territory, it’s an opportunity to pause and reflect on a fascinating chapter of colonial Australia.
