Golden fields. Open roads. Spring in the Hilltops is made to be explored.
From late August to late September, the Hilltops Region lights up with vibrant canola blooms and is a truly breathtaking sight that will have you wondering why you didn’t visit sooner. Whether you’re a family on a weekend drive, an avid photographer, an influencer, or just someone who loves a good road trip, the Hilltops in spring is the place to be.
The fields are a bold, bright yellow and seriously Instagram-perfect. Against a backdrop of pink and white cherry blossoms, green paddocks and blue skies, it’s one of the most photogenic times of the year to visit. Chasing content, planning a relaxing weekend escape or craving fresh air and wide-open spaces? Spring is the ideal time to explore.
Canola crops are rotated every one to two years, so the location and timing of blooming fields can vary. For the best local advice on where and when to go, contact the Hilltops Region Visitor Information Centre before you travel.
Along the way, discover the charm of our towns and drop into Boorowa, Harden-Murrumburrah, Young, Jugiong or our quaint villages for great coffee, local shopping, fresh produce and a relaxed country vibe.
Planning a longer trip?
The VisitNSW Canola Trail Itinerary – 2024 is a four-day self-drive route through canola country, passing right through the Hilltops. It’s ideal for you and a great chance to slow down and enjoy the season. Just check ahead for seasonal hours or temporary closures before you go.
Just so you know, if you’re out exploring, please follow a few simple safety tips:
- Pull over safely and completely off the road
- Don’t stop on crests or blind corners
- Never enter private farmland or crops
- Drones are not permitted over private land without permission, even from public roads
These small actions help protect working farms and ensure the experience stays safe for everyone.
